Quantum Product Design September 2013

There appears to be an increase in the demand for new products. Look at Dragons’ Den, for instance, people pitching their brilliant idea for a new product to a group of multi-billionaire business moguls. Most of the time, four out of five of these will be “out” as it is put, and the one that makes an offer will really twist the arm of the entrepreneur in question, so it’s very rare that anyone gets what they really want, and in many cases deserve. But what often goes unnoticed is the level of quality that goes into researching and developing these products, something all innovators will be aware of, and arguably something that these moguls will have forgotten since making their millions. This is why Quantum Product Design can help give the extra boost needed to really bring home the unique selling points and genuine qualities that your product possesses.

Now, many of you who read this may be thinking that this is aimed specifically at professionals whom have been in the game for many years. This is not the case. The truth is that anyone is an innovator in their own right, if they put their mind to it. At Quantum Product Design, we recognise that more or less every person in the world is capable of coming up with a brilliant idea, and we feel that what we do could bridge the gap. With considerable expertise and knowledge, we have the knowhow to give the best possible results.

Take a look here at some of our recent work. You can see a range of products in terms of size, function and design. Some are simply adaptations of existing inventions, whereas other are a completely new and designed from the ground up. The possibilities are endless!

Some ideas are very simple and straightforward. For example, one client wanted a vegetable peeler that cuts more peel per stroke, so we designed a Peeler with a 50% more effective cut. Elsewhere, there is the Detail Shot hairdryer. This is simply a hairdryer with a macho design and a feature that allows the hairdryer to give a cool, concentrated blast. So, in truth, anyone with any kind of idea would fit in at Quantum Product Design. We’re certainly not small time though, as you may able to tell with the introduction of the QS5.2 Supercar. So as you can see, we consider the ideas of people from all walks of life. You might have the worry in your head that your idea is too stupid to put forward, but we can absolutely assure you that this is not the case. As mentioned before, we’ll cover everything from a nail clipper to a spacecraft engine (possibly!). In a nutshell, this service can help all minds of entrepreneurs, workers and generally just people with great ideas.

The University of the Arts London offers a bachelor’s degree in product design. The course description reads: “BA Product Design believes product design solutions should meet the wants and needs of real people.” We agree, and we understand that people can grow frustrated with the chore-like nature of everyday tasks, and are therefore looking for an easier and better solution. If this is not the case, perhaps they are simply looking to create a better, cooler or more efficient version of something that already exists. The possibilities are endless.

Elsewhere, the course description from University of the Arts reads “Widely recognised as an external environment which rigorous thinking generates creative, commercially relevant work, this course gives you the intellectual, academic and subject-specific skills you need to define your own professional practice. In some ways, this is also true of the work we carry out at Quantum Product Design, because we firmly believe in the statement that “rigorous thinking generates creative, commercially relevant work” and we know that you as an innovator want to create something for the benefit of either yourself, someone else or a group of people with specific needs.

Quantum Product Design is a business that prides itself on quality control and quality assurance. Firstly, the visualisation that comes with product design is the key to delivering a true gem in innovation. The visualisation side of things really hits the nail on the head when you talk about wanting to create something that will benefit yourself or another person or group of people, because it’s important to have the vision to make this a reality. Elsewhere, we’re proud to say we make use of rapid prototyping, so you won’t have to wait long until the design of your product looks as spectacular as you want it too! If you’re looking for advice on obtaining a patent, we can also help you with this. It’s your idea, don’t forget, so it’s very important to make sure people are aware of that, after all you’re the genius that came up with it! We’ll give professional, friendly advice on exactly how to go about this. We test products virtually and physically, to make sure that your product is fully saleable. We’ll also finitely analyse the finished product, so as previously stated, Quantum Product Design prides itself on quality assurance and quality control indeed.

So just to be clear, if you thought before that the whole process of becoming an innovator of the next big thing was a daunting prospect, you needn’t worry. As is stated on the “About Us” step on our website, we’ll give you an honest appraisal from the beginning and any idea is treated with a warm welcome no matter how small or grand. I hope this blog has made everything sound a little more appealing and that you feel that your idea can be turned into everything you want it to be! So if you feel like this is for you, there are six simple steps to take on your road to greatness:

-          Step 1: Initial design brief – submit your idea in the form of a simple sketch. It doesn’t have to be Claude Monet or Leonardo Da Vinci standard! Just as long as we can get a general idea of what it is you’re trying to invent.

-          Step 2: N.D.A. – the team will contact you (usually within 24 hours) and if your idea is fully understood with the information you have given, a non-disclosure agreement (N.D.A.) will be sent for you to sign and return.

-          Step 3: Prototyping – after all is passed and agreed, we’ll get to work in a prototype of your product. We’ll then send it back to you for feedback, and if you are happy we’ll move onto the next step.

-          Step 4: Patent research – this stage is crucial. Patent searching takes around a week to fully ensure that your product has not been done before, which you don’t want after everything else! There is a likelihood that your product will have similarities to others already on the market, but this is not cause for worry. At Quantum, we will offer constructive and friendly advice on how to make your product a real novelty.

-          Step 5: Patenting – hugely important. Get a patent for the idea ASAP, because the last thing you want after the whole process has been completed is for someone to steal your idea! We’re happy to arrange patenting on your behalf and appoint the right attorney for your idea.

-          Step 6: Submitting for production – this is it. This is the process of approaching parties for production of your product. We can also help you with this if necessary, with use of detailed drawings, CAD-CAM, testing and prototyping, rapid prototyping and product marketing, as previously talked about.

So there you have it. That’s just about everything there is to be said about what makes our business the place for you if you have any sort of idea at all for a new or updated product, we are the place to come for all your needs. If there’s any more information you require about the whole process, you can visit our website at www.quantumproductdesign.co.uk and we’ll clear that up for you. If not, submit your initial design brief to info@quantumproductdesign.co.uk, or contact us directly on any of the three phone numbers shown on the website for anything else you might need. Good luck and happy innovating!
